Abstract
A power control system (PCS) 100 for a container vessel (1, Fig.7) comprising a power interface 105 for supplying energy to at least one refrigerated container 130 transportable by the vessel. The PCS also has a controller 110 configured to obtain load data representative of a container vessel generator load 120, and target load range data representative of a generator target load range. The PCS is configured to control the load to fall within the target load range by the controller increasing energy supplied to the power interface for storage at the at least one refrigerated reefer container, when the load is below the target load range. This allows load balancing through energy storage at the refrigerated container(s). The increased energy supplied to the at least one reefer may be used to cool said reefer(s) below a set temperature, where the set temperature may be no less than -35 degrees Celsius and/or the temperature decrease may be at least 5 degrees Celsius. The PCS may also reduce energy supplied to the at least one reefer when the load is above the target load range. Also claimed is a method of operating a PCS.
