Abstract
Disclosed herein is a method for generating a digital 3D representation of at least a portion of an intraoral cavity disclosed herein, the method comprising using an intraoral scanner to at least express the geometry of the surface points of the portion of the oral cavity. Recording a plurality of views including data; Determining a weight for each surface point based at least in part on scores that are measures of confidence that the surface point represents a particular type of surface; Executing a stitching algorithm that performs weighted stitching of surface points in the plurality of views to generate a digital 3D representation based on the determined weights, wherein scores for the surface points are input As found by at least one score-finding algorithm that takes the geometrical portion of the surface data for at least the surface point and the surface data for points near the surface point.
