Abstract
Disclosed herein is a method for generating a digital 3D representation of at least a portion of an oral cavity, the method comprising: recording, using an intra-oral scanner, a plurality of views containing surface data representing at least a geometry of surface points of the portion of the oral cavity; determining a weight for each surface point based at least in part on a score, the score being a measure of the confidence that the surface point represents a particular type of surface; performing a stitching algorithm that performs a weighted stitching of surface points in the plurality of views to generate a digital 3D representation based on the determined weights; wherein the score of a surface point is found by at least one score finding algorithm that takes as input at least the geometric part of the surface data of the surface point and the surface data of points in the vicinity of the surface point.
