Abstract

Abstract The paper aims at presenting and discussing a recently discovered copper-alloy applique with a rare depiction of Alexander the Great. The ornament was found near the city of Ringsted in Central Zealand, Denmark. It is compared to a silver shield mount with identical Alexander-motif from Illerup Ådal, Jutland (DK), and to a copper-alloy applique with possible Alexander III depiction from Nytofte, Zealand (DK). Furthermore, the origin of the ornament and its production and function are also briefly discussed.
