Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for controlling the blade pitch angle of a wind turbine by using a hydraulic system. The hydraulic system includes a reservoir that stores hydraulic fluid and a pump that supplies hydraulic fluid from the reservoir to the accumulator if hydraulic fluid pressure in the accumulator is below a lower threshold and until the hydraulic fluid pressure in the accumulator exceeds an upper threshold. The accumulator stores pressurized hydraulic fluid supplied by the pump and supplies the pressurized hydraulic fluid to the pitch control cylinders via output valves of the hydraulic system. Pressurized hydraulic fluid in the pitch control cylinder drives the piston to change the blade pitch angle. The method comprises the following steps: determining a target outflow of pressurized hydraulic fluid from an accumulator to a pitch control cylinder; determining a difference between the target outflow and a predetermined inflow of hydraulic fluid from the reservoir to the accumulator; if the target outflow is greater than the predetermined inflow, hydraulic fluid is supplied from the reservoir to the accumulator by the pump regardless of whether the hydraulic fluid pressure is below a lower threshold.
