Abstract

The invention provides a method for processing MSW, which comprises the following steps: -providing a stream of unsorted MSW to a microbial fermentation reactor in which MSW is fermented with agitation at a temperature of 35-75 ℃ and a non-water content of 10-50 wt% for 1-72 hours under conditions sufficient to maintain a viable lactic acid bacteria concentration of at least 10.000.000.000CFU/L, and-removing the fermented unsorted MSW stream from the reactor and subjecting it to a separation step in which non-degradable solids are removed to provide a slurry of biodegradable components. Furthermore, a slurry of biodegradable components prepared according to the method is provided.
