Disclosed is a rescue system (1) for a vessel. The rescue system (1) comprises a gangway (10), a proximal base (20) configured to secure the rescue system (1) to a vessel, and a distal platform (30). The distal platform (30) is pivotably arranged to a distal end (12) of the gangway (10). The proximal base (20) is pivotably arranged to a proximal end (11) of the gangway (10). The rescue system (1) comprises a lifting mechanism (40). The lifting mechanism (40) is configured to translate the gangway (10) between a raised position and a lowered position. The lifting mechanism (40) is configured to carry and lift a load of more than 100 kg acting on the distal platform (30). A vessel (100) comprising said rescue system (1) is also disclosed.
