Abstract
A large two-stroke turbocharged uniflow scavenged internal combustion engine with crossheads comprises multiple combustion chambers, scavenge ports (18), exhaust gas valves (4), an exhaust gas system, an air inlet system, a turbocharging system (5) a secondary cooling circuit (60), a primary cooling circuit (70), and a controller (100). The primary cooling circuit (70) is connected to the secondary cooling circuit (60) by a valve system (56, 57), and the controller (100) controls the temperature of the water in the primary cooling circuit (70) to a temperature below 95°C and above 100°C, preferably between 120°C and 140°C by adjusting the amount of water from the primary cooling circuit (70) that is mixed into the water of the secondary cooling circuit (60) using the valve system (56, 57).
