A method for transforming plant material into a wet fibrous mono-gastric animal feed and/or ruminant feed and a feed produced by this method

A method (1000) for transforming plant material (10) into mono-gastric animal feed and/or ruminant feed, the method (1000) comprising steps of - providing (1100) plant material (10) comprising plant cells with cell walls and at least 5 weight% water-soluble protein, - extruding (1200) the plant material (10) into an extrudate (20), wherein the extrudate (20) comprises the water-soluble proteins and carbohydrates released from the plant cells, - transferring (1300) the extrudate (20) to a reservoir, - fermenting (1400) the plant material (10) before the extrudate (20) for at least one hour, wherein the step of fermenting (1400) is performed using homo and/or hetero lactic acid bacteria to catabolize the carbohydrates yielding lactic acid and/or acetic acid and/or propionic acid, - retrieving (1500) a fermented extrudate (30) transformed to be useable as mono-gastric animal and/or ruminant feed.
