Abstract

A method of preparing a wind turbine blade for recycling. At least a portion of the wind turbine blade is subjected to a first chemical treatment. The first chemical treatment is selected to degrade a first binding material of the wind turbine blade portion to a significantly greater extent than a second binding material of the wind turbine blade portion. A part of the wind turbine blade portion is separated from the remainder of the wind turbine blade portion after the first chemical treatment has sufficiently degraded the first binding material to release the part from the remainder of the wind turbine blade portion and before the first chemical treatment has significantly degraded the second binding material. This separation of materials by chemical treatment improves the ability of the blade to be recycled.
