Abstract
A wind turbine blade (3) with a leading edge protection system (9, 19, 27), wherein: the leading edge protection system (9, 19, 27) comprises a shell portion (10, 18, 26), a surface (15, 24, 32) of the shell portion (10, 18, 26) forms part of an outer surface (17) of the blade, the shell portion (10, 18, 26) includes at least one cavity (12, 21, 29) integrally formed inside a material (11, 20, 28) of the shell portion (10, 18, 26), and the at least one cavity (12) is a closed cavity filled with a shock absorbing medium (13) and/or the at least one cavity (21, 29) is filled with a shock absorbing material (22, 30).
Having the leading edge protection system comprising the shell portion with the at least one cavity filled with the shock absorbing material and/or medium provides an improved shock absorption at the leading edge of a wind turbine blade.
